3 of the Newest Environmentally Friendly Building materials

Saving our planet is one of the popular news nowadays. The Ozone layer is wearing out and this is causing climate change and global warming, which is dangerous to living things (both plant and Animals). However, Scientists are doing their best possible to save our planet and one of the things they are working on is making things less harmful by making them eco-friendly.

Moreover, without wasting much time, we have done our research and compiled some of the latest environmentally friendly technology that you can use when constructing. Read on and be enlightened.

  • Dimension Stones

Stones are always considered for many generations as a premium material in any construction project. Talking about its durability, it has been in use for many generations and it was observed that structures built with stones have survived many hazards (both natural and artificial). Not only that, Stones occur naturally and therefore they cause less harm to the environment. There are different types of stone used in construction projects and they include, crush stone, limestone, and dimension stones and so on. However, we are to consider dimension stone, which is an eco-friendly building material.

Dimension stones are naturally occurring materials that are excavated from the ground. They occur in different color and textures. Unlike, glass, metal, concrete, the stones are easily found and requires no artificial additive to make it strong or for beautifying it. However, for this reason they are less harmful to the environment and are more preferred to traditional building materials. Moreover, they are cheap and easy to maintain.

  • Straw-bales

Straw-bale construction is another construction method, which uses bales of straw (like wheat, rice, oats straw) as structural elements or building insulation. The use of bales of straw in construction is one of the latest developments in constructing environmentally friendly structures. Although the use of straw in structural buildings is dated back to the Paleolithic period (old stone age), where it is used in Africa; however, coming back into usage today is as a result of the revolutionary development in building construction.

Unlike the conventional building materials, Straw-bale construction is environmentally friendly and has many advantages like; they are very cheap because they are made from waste products. They have low embodied value. They are biodegradable and can last for a longer period if they maintained properly.

  • Grasscretes

As we know, concrete is an important construction material and that it is widely accepted all over the world. The only problem with concrete is that it is harmful to the environment as it manufacturing process releases carbon dioxide, a big contribution to change in climate. However, different research has been made by experts to help design an alternative or a way to reduce the hazardous chemicals, which is released during its manufacturing process and Grasscrete is one of the results of their research.

Grasscrete is the mixture of concrete and natural soil in a patterned structure. After sometimes, the grass will grow in areas where the soils are and in little time, the entire area will be covered with grasses. This, however, reduces the environmental impact of chemicals emits by concrete. According to researches carried out, Grasscrete is considered as a better alternative to Concrete because it is less harmful, it is stronger, uses less concrete, last longer and greener.
